A new London festival invites AI filmmakers to put unfilmable stories on screen, with trophies and laurels for seven award categories

I'Mpossible Film Festival 2026 accepts AI-made and hybrid films exploring memory, exile, censorship and history across seven categories. Extended deadline 20 October 2026.

Some stories resist conventional filmmaking. A disappeared archive, a censored history, a diaspora memory with no surviving footage — these are precisely the subjects that Festival Director Nima Pour has built a new London-based festival around. The I'Mpossible Film Festival 2026, subtitled The Unfilmable Edition, is a first-edition online festival that explicitly invites AI cinema to do what traditional production cannot: reconstruct, reimagine and restore stories that would otherwise stay dark.

The festival runs internationally and screens online, with winners announced on 12 December 2026. It is administered through FilmFreeway, and the extended submission deadline is 20 October 2026. A regular deadline of 30 September has already passed, so the October date is the one to work towards. Fee waivers are available for filmmakers facing financial, political or access barriers, which is a meaningful gesture given the festival's thematic focus on exile and censorship.

What you submit

Films must be predominantly AI-made or hybrid productions where AI plays a meaningful creative role in reconstruction or storytelling. Filmmakers must retain creative and editorial control throughout. Any AI tools are permitted, but the festival requires transparency about how AI has been used. The work should engage seriously with the festival's thematic territory: memory, history, exile, censorship, or stories that are otherwise unfilmable by conventional means. The festival accepts entries across six declared categories.

Prize structure

The prizes here are prestige and physical recognition rather than cash. Winners receive official festival laurels, digital certificates and physical trophies for main award categories. The seven named awards are:

- AI Short Film Award
- AI Microfilm Award
- AI Doc Reconstruction Award
- AI Experimental & Concept Award
- AI Music Video Award
- AI Exile & Memory Award
- AI Unfilmable Story Award
- I'Mpossible Special Mention

Physical trophies are noted as going to a limited number of main winners. If you are entering primarily for financial return, this is not that festival. If festival recognition, laurels for your portfolio and a platform for socially significant AI work are the goal, the offering is clear.

Terms worth reading

The festival does not publish detailed rights terms on the listing page; those will appear in the FilmFreeway submission agreement. Filmmakers should review those terms carefully before submitting. The requirement that filmmakers retain creative and editorial control is stated as a condition of entry, which is a positive signal, but it does not speak to what rights the festival may exercise over submitted material for promotional purposes. Check the FilmFreeway agreement for any licence grants covering trailers, stills or screening rights.

Entry fees are set via FilmFreeway and vary by category and submission timing. The availability of fee waivers for filmmakers facing access barriers is worth noting if cost is a consideration.

Useful details

Submissions opened 1 July 2026. The festival is based in London but screens online, so physical attendance is not required. Verification on the tracker was last confirmed 8 September 2026. Submit via FilmFreeway through the official festival site. As no cutoff time within 20 October is published, submit at least a day in advance to be safe.
